Obligations under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999

The pulp mill project was approved under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) on 4 October 2007. The approval conditions require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Management Plan (EIMP) for approval by the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts. The approval allows the EIMP to be submitted and approved in sections. The following sections (referred to as modules) provided below for public information have been approved by the Minister. Modules A and B were approved on 1 February 2008, with Module C approved on 2 April 2008. Module E was approved 23 May 2008. Modules C1, D, FGHK, IJ and O were approved on 5 January 2009. Modules A, D and FGHK were revised and re-approved 10 March 2011. Modules L, M and N were approved 10 March 2011. The following documents comprise the formal submission of the 2009/2010 Hydrodynamic Modelling Project
In early 2011, Gunns submitted the final documents to the Commonwealth detailing the results of a series of studies relating to the release of effluent in Bass strait waters from the proposed Bell Bay pulp mill. A similar submission, based on the same studies will be submitted to the State in due course. The documents provided below include the formally submitted reports and a series of documents which are *not* part of the formal submission. The documents which are not part of the formal submission are authored to provide a summary of the overall project to stakeholders who have an interest in the findings, but may not be expert in the technical aspects of the studies or the operation and management of bleached kraft pulp mills.
